You are not alone

Candy for your ears

Trying to establish a presence on the web can be a daunting task, requiring dedication, persistence, and lots of hard work.

Remembering that this is an experiment, this blog was started following advice from several sources on how to leverage* the power of social publishing to maximise SEO

(You could do far worse that follow the advice that springs from http://www.jeffbullas.com/)

Although I am only just dipping my toe into this, one overwhelming message that seems to be coming out of the process so far is “engagement” – or put another way get the attention of your audience is not simply a case of shouting at them.

Many years ago I was lucky enough to have a talent that enabled me to co-operate in a venture with a small group of like minded individuals in what used to be known as a rock band (haven’t we all?)

One of the techniques that we quickly developed was to present our compositions in the crucible of live performances, and try to gauge the reaction of our audience.  The acid test was if after the performance any member of the audience could be heard humming one of the tracks, or apart of one we knew we had a hook that was worth pursuing. I guess that this could be deemed our market research.

So what’s this got to do with the title?

Well ,its how we reached that point where we could unleash our wares on an unsuspecting public that brings in the co-operation and collaboration into the discussion. There have been tomes written about the creative process, but it became clear that, for us, the best way to sculpt a new tune was to bounce ideas off of each other and contribute.

It would not have been impossible for any of us to craft something in isolation, but the ideas certainly flowed when we presented ideas to each other.

I am not suggesting that you need to gather a team or group to your permanent personal staff but bouncing ideas off other people might just prompt a eureka moment in your thought process.

And sometimes total strangers can be the most helpful sounding board you can get because they have nothing to lose by being honest with you

If I can help I will

What do you think?

Oh, and if you are interested in my previous life as a gigging musician please feel free to get in touch!

*leverage – don’t you just hate this type of pretentious corporate speak?
